POWERBOAT P1 Croatia race cancelled

March 01, 2010

The 2010 Powerboat P1 World Championship was supposed to kick off in Croatia on the 16-18 of April. Due to the local promoter AM Info Media failing to meet a deadline to deliver the required level of funding to stage the event, Powerboat P1 Management Ltd, have been forced to make a late change to the schedule meaning the first race of the season will be staged in Yalta, Ukraine in early May. AM Info Media had been awarded a three-year agreement last year
by Powerboat P1 to stage the Croatia Grand Prix of the Sea in Split.

Powerboat P1 Chief Operating Officer, Robert Wicks, said: “AM Info Media had good intentions but unfortunately have missed the deadline. A great deal of effort had gone into the planning for this event, but in the end we were left with no alternative but to remove Croatia from the calendar. The opportunity to open the season in the Ukraine on 7 May is one that we are very much looking forward to given the country’s impressive powerboating heritage and passion for Powerboat P1”.

With the racing starting a few weeks later this will also be a good one for the teams to plan and organize and also of course to test their equipment properly before the season hits off. There is also talk about a number of alternative venues that are interested in securing the rights to stage a replacement round. We will update you further when this is official.
With more than 20 teams confirmed, the 2010 P1 World Championship promises to be one of the better in Powerboat P1’s history and if the teams confirmed also show up this will make for some of the biggest and best racing around when it comes to neck and neck powerboat racing. Now let’s hope for some windy events to make this really spectacular.

Ghost Yachts to cooperate with Jongert Shipyard

March 01, 2010

Ghost Yachts and Jongert Shipyard have made an agreement to cooperate in the building of the 55 meter motor yacht G180. At the end of November 2009 Ghost Yachts introduced this innovative 55 meter motoryacht. The spectacular design of the G180 is created by the Italian Gloss Design. The “Fast Displacement Hull Form” is developed by the renowned naval architects Van Oossanen & Associates.

“Jongert the obvious choice”
The decision to choose Jongert as a partner for building the G180 was a logical one, according to Björn Moonen, managing director of Ghost Yachts. ‘Jongert Shipyard is by far the most modern and best equipped shipyard in the world for building super yachts, disposing of an extremely skilled workforce.
The same goes for their subcontractors. Another important fact is that the Netherlands are pre-eminently known for their yacht building industry aiming at building ecologically and as energy efficient as possible. This means taking care of an optimal design and avoiding unnecessary transports. All Jongert’s suppliers and subcontractors are located within a radius of 100 kilometers of the shipyard. The yacht will be built from hull to finish on the same location.’

Another point for the decision to cooperate with Jongert is the fact that the company was taken over in 2009 by a syndicate consisting of three strong private parties and RABO Bank, the only commercial AAA rated bank in the world. ‘Thanks to these partners Jongert is the most solid and reliable organization in the super yacht industry’, says Moonen. ‘This is of the utmost importance to owners, who have their yachts built here. The confidence in the technical capability of a company is as important as the financial stability, the certainty of a well-oiled organization and the trust in the management. The takeover and the subsequent reorganization have made the company stronger than ever. In my opinion Jongert is ready for the future.’

‘All parties are equally important’
‘It’s a great challenge to build this innovative yacht in cooperation with Ghost Yachts, the Italian designer Gloss Design and the naval architects Van Oossanen & Associates’, says Folkert Brongers, general manager of Jongert Shipyard. ‘A yacht like the G180 has never been built before. The shape of the hull is unique. This means that in the preparation for and during the building a strong appeal will be made to the craftsmanship of our workforce. We don’t just follow a design. From start to finish we think along with the designer in each and every detail to achieve the optimal final result.

A unique hull design
The design of the G180 is not only exceptional above the water line, the submerged hull is absolutely unique.  The hull has a much lower resistance than a traditionally designed normal displacement hull. The difference in resistance of this hull design compared to a normal semi displacement hull is extreme. Thanks to the Fast Displacement Hull Form any type of engine can be chosen.  Whatever engine is used, the G180 runs perfectly. If you feel comfortable with a speed of 13 to 14 knots, 2 x 820 hp engines will do the job. Thanks to the special hull the desired speed can be reached at a much lower number of revolutions, giving much better and comfortable sailing characteristics and considerably lower fuel consumption and consequently a much larger sailing radius.

For those of you who love to go fast, the finishing touch is now put to the design of the second Ghost model, the G180V. This model combines all efficiency advantages of the G180 with the possibility to reach a maximum speed of around 40 knots. And another thing; this yacht should be faster than its tender. How is that??
